Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops Review

Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops takes place six years after what happened in Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater and again you control Big Boss or Naked Snake as he likes to be called. Snake is pushed back into his old job so he can clear his name because his old unit has gone renegade and the government thinks he had something to do with it.
Now the game play is very similar to that of the other games but some things were changed. This time around you can only carry four items per person and all of the characters you play as have different abilities. This time around you are by yourself and Snake has to recruit people to join his squad to help him out. The new squad members that Snake recruits can either be part of the Sneaking Team, Spy Team, Medic Team or Engineer Team. All the different teams help you out, for example, by making supplies or getting info for you. The graphics look just as good as the PS2 version of Metal Gear Solid 2 or 3 but the only difference in this game is that the cutscenes look like a comic book and I think it’s because they didn’t have that much space on the UMD Disc to do the cutscenes like in the other games. The comic book cutscenes are still pretty good and they did a really good job with them. You can also get some other characters from other Metal Gear Solid games to join your squad as well which is pretty nice.
This game feels just like the past Metal Gear Solid games but they added other elements to it to make it a little different for example you actually are in command of a squad and you get help from all of your members and they also did change some of the controls due to the PSP having less buttons than the PS2 controller but they made it work. This was a nice portable game that I played whenever I had to travel somewhere and also a nice game to play with other people as you fight against the other person’s squad. This is a great game to pick up if you are a fan of the Metal Gear Solid series and have PSP so you can get some more Metal Gear gameplay if you haven’t already.
There is also an expansion game to this one; it’s called Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops Plus and that game gives you more missions to do without a story. You can also import your squad from the original game so you don’t have to start all over and create a new squad and it also includes some extra online modes. You can get even more characters from the Metal Gear Solid series like Old Snake from Metal Gear Solid 4 which is the next game I’m finally going to play.
