Making gold in World of Warcraft - a basic how-to guide

So you’ve just rolled your first toon on the World of Warcraft, and you’re looking around at this brand new world when it suddenly hits you. “Doh! I’m broke”. You’re looking around at all those people who have been there for months and years that are rolling in the gold and here you are with a couple of silver. At this point your going “How do I make some fast cash?” Well there are certainly a few ways to go about this, some more realistic then others, and some against Blizzard’s TOS. Let me briefly cover the ways I know and then we will get into my personal favorites.
1. Buy gold online: Not only is this against Blizzards Terms Of Service, but it’s lame! Not to mention the risk of getting your account hacked.
2. Farming: If you have any experience with MMORPG’s at all then you know this term. Its when you go into an area with the intent to kill enemies for Drops (Weapons, Armor, Cloth etc) and Cash (Copper, Silver, Gold ).
3. If you make it they will come: This is the professions aspect of things, choose a profession in high demand and MAKE things then sell them on the local auction house. You’ll be surprised how effective this is especially with something like leatherworking which the majority of classes, from levels 1-40, wear in Warcraft.
4. Find slackers just like you: This is, of course, finding other WoW fans like yourself (in-game) and joining their guild. Most guilds will assist you with items, armor, money, food, etc. Don’t always count on this, however in my experience there are lots of decent souls left in WoW who are willing to be kind.
5. Gather that: Lastly and my personal FAVORITE way to make money is to gather it. Well not gather money specifically, but to take gathering professions such as Miner, Herbalist or Skinner. My choice is fairly simple, seeing as I don’t care to pick flowers I generally take Mining and Skinning. Ore generally sells for a fair amount at lower levels (1 gold+ per stack of copper on my server) and it continues going up as your levels increase. Skinning is less lucrative at lower levels and more impressive at higher levels. The same can be said for herbalist where you don’t start making your real money until late in the game around level 55.
So that’s it, that’s how I can go to a new server without any aid of friends or high level alternate characters, and in no time I can be rolling in bags, gold, and armor.
Something I might include just in case, IF by chance you are completely new and on your very first character most experienced players will be happy to answer question if you are polite and some will even give you a small bag or two to get started if you’re really nice. Keep these things in mind but don’t COUNT on them.
