World of Warcraft Server Crashes and the People Who Hate Them

As a WOW addict I can safely say that my addiction was not properly fed yesterday (Tuesday March 18th). The usual 6 hours of “maintenance” turned into something more like twelve. On the heels of the misery of my server having been down for 12 hours and finding the realms that were up inundated with acts of immaturity, callousness and just plain rudeness I wanted to offer my suggestions on what to do when your in this situation.
1. Load up a web browser behind your Warcraft program so that you can occasionally alt+tab out to check the status of your realm. Don’t be afraid to check the status of realms for others either, but don’t do it so often that you aren’t having any in-game fun.
2. Remember you are a guest on someone else’s server. Be polite, courteous and above all be happy that not all the realms are down.
3. You may be on your temporary server waiting for your home to come back online for 5 minutes or like me 6 hours. That being said if you don’t want to start an alt on a new server and wait you might want to take this opportunity to call your family and let them know you’re still alive and perhaps do some house cleaning or feed your cat.
4. I find that the best thing you can do in a server crash is to roll with it. If it had not been for the “maintenance” yesterday I would never have rolled a Tauren let alone a Druid and I’ve come to find that while this combination isn’t an Undead Rogue it is quite enjoyable.
5. Above all else remember…. Server crashes suck for everyone involved… The realms that are still up are suffering a huge influx of new / temporary players, and those that are dealing with their realms being down are feeling slighted by Blizzard and just looking to kill time.
We’re all addicted, but lets be kind when we backstab each other for that next fix!

O my, if you’re having withdrawal from your game it might be time to put the game aside for a while. Might I suggest getting outside and blowing the stink off.
