A Song of Wall Street

The Stock Market Song
(With thanks to The Trolley Song from Meet Me in St. Louis)

Clang, clang, clang
now it’s open.
Ding, ding, ding
goes the bell.
Zing, zing, zing
went my heartstrings,
the S&P’s
starting its fall.

Chug, chug, chug
- the economy.
Bump, bump, bump
ow,  the Dow.
Thump, thump, thump
go my heartstrings,
as the stock market
glides  into hell.

She:
The day was bright,
the air was sweet
I smelled his sweat
(or was it feet?)
i tried to shout
but couldn’t squeak.
We felt so bad
we couldn’t speak

With my starched white collar
and my high-heeled shoes
and my hair piled high upon my head
i claimed a well-earned
dollar on the market
but lost my shirt instead.

All:
Clang, clang, clang
went the open.
Ding, ding, ding
goes the bell.
Zing, zing, zing
went her heartstrings,
watching her financials
fall.

Clang, clang,clang
- the economy.
Chug, chug, chug
goes the Dow.
Plop, plop, plop
as the shit hit the fan.
Stop, stop, stop
as it dripped and it ran.
Oh, how it feels
when the universe reels.
Ooohhh

He:
The day was bright
the air was sweet
our hope was  dying
in the street.
You tried to shout
but couldn’t squeak.
We loathed it so
we couldn’t speak.
Ooohhh

She:
Buzz, buzz, buzz
went the buzzer.
Plop, plop, plop
went the shit.
Stop, stop, stop
went my heartstrings.
As my ulcers heave
i took hold of his sleeve
with my hand
and as if it were planned
he stayed on with me
it was grand
just to stand
with his hand holding mine
at the end of the line.

Both:
Buzz, buzz, buzz
went the buzzer.
Time we all disembark.
Help, help, help
went my heartstrings,
as we crawl home
to Central  Park.

All:
Zing, zing, zing
went my future
etc.
