Names

Long before I had kids, I’d been fascinated with names, their origins, and how people come up with them for their kids. When I was cleaning my bookshelves, I couldn’t believe how many books of names I had. These are not baby name books, but books about their histories and meanings.

Visio Stencils

I’ve been using Visio since 1997 and I never thought about looking for free templates and downloads on the Web until Paul, an IT manager, mentioned he was looking for Visio stencils for hardware. Nick Finck has IA stencils available for Visio Professional 2003. MVPS.org lists Visio download sites.

BBS: The Documentary has finally shipped! The creator, Jason Scott, travelled roughly 20,000 miles by plane and car through 25 states and one province, and interviewed 200 people. He recorded roughly 247 hours of interviews, with the shortest at 5 minutes and the longest at 5 hours. At no point did he despair, except when [...]

Well-Read Life

After I read The Little Book to Your Well-Read Life, I found the book’s companion Web site and it has great articles and tools for book lovers. The book inspired me so much that I expanded on my original reading list. The list simply lists the books I’ve read and when. But as soon as [...]

PC Annoyances Second Edition

If you own the first edition, you won’t experience deja vu while reading the second edition. The new one has many changes that you won’t recognize it.

SnagIt Tips

The Lockergnome staff has recommended SnagIt many times. I remember talking to my sister and she mentioned that I shold use it. I told her I was perfectly fine with PrtScrn and then using Photoshop to modify the capture.
I started using the software at work and since we didn’t have Photoshop, I appreciated SnagIt’s editing [...]

IE7 & Win2K Follow Up

In response to yesterday’s post: Microsoft doesn’t plan to support IE7 on Win2K, which is ironic considering the same blog entry says that Microsoft is extending supporting for Win2K beyond June 30, 2005. I heard from Tristan who explains it:
Windows 2000 is now over 5 years old, and is moving to its Extended support phase. [...]

No IE7 Support For Win2k

Microsoft doesn’t plan to support IE7 on Win2K, which is ironic considering the same blog entry says that Microsoft is extending supporting for Win2K beyond June 30, 2005.
There are two important events that will happen to the support policy for Windows 2000 after June 30th of this year.

Moving To A New PC

Getting a new PC is exciting and a pain. It’s exciting because you get a faster processor, more storage, and all the latest stuff even though it’s outdated as soon as it hits your desk. The pain comes with re-installing all of your programs, re-customizing your preferences for programs, applications, and Windows, and transfering data [...]

Keyboard Skips Letters

A few days ago, I wrote about my new keyboard and mouse set. I’m happy with it except for one thing… it sometimes skips letters in no predictable fashion. I wrote to Microsoft Support about it and a tech replied within a few hours. The tech proposed it could be an issue with one of [...]
