Outlook – Increase the Level of Junk Email Filtering
Microsoft Outlook 2007 automatically filters your incoming email to keep your Inbox clear of spam and other junk. Any messages that Outlook identifies as junk email are automatically moved to the Junk Email folder.
Outlook’s default junk email filtering level is set to ‘Low’. As the amount of unsolicited email continues to rise, you may need to increase the filtering level to ensure your inbox isn’t overrun with junk email. Increasing the filtering level is simple to do. The steps below describe how to increase the filtering level from ‘Low’ to ‘High’ in Outlook 2007.
- Open Outlook.
- Click the Tools menu and click Options.
- The Options window appears. If it’s not selected already, click the Preferences tab.
- Under the E-mail section, click the Junk E-mail button.
- The Junk E-mail Options window appears. If it’s not already selected, click the Options tab.
- Under ‘Choose the level of junk e-mail protection you want’, click the radial button beside ‘High’. Alternatively, you can choose from any of the following levels:
- No Automatic Filtering — Choose this option if you are using third party software to filter your email.
- Low — The most obvious junk e-mail is filtered.
- High — Most junk e-mail is filtered; however, some safe mail may be caught as well. If you select this option, check the Junk E-mail folder frequently.
- Safe List Only — Only email from e-mail addresses or domains on your Safe Senders / Recipients Lists reach your Inbox. All other email is filtered to the Junk Email folder.
- Click OK to save your changes.
