How to Use iTunes Home Sharing at Home or Work

If you are using iTunes on multiple computers on a home or office network, with others listening to music on iTunes while connected to the same network, iTunes Home Sharing is a great, easy, and fast way to share music. The iTunes Home Sharing feature allows an unlimited amount of iTunes users connected to the same network to share their music without the need to (illegally) download music from each other. iTunes Home Sharing works for both and between Windows and Macs, and can be set up in under two minutes.

How to Set Up Home Sharing on iTunes at Home:

  1. Open iTunes on one computer connected to your home network.
  2. Select Home Sharing from the sidebar of iTunes.
  3. Enter your iTunes account information.
  4. Authorize this computer, if not authorized yet.
  5. Repeat steps 1-4 on each additional computer of the home network. Keep in mind you can only authorize five computers for each iTunes account, so you may want to set up your kids or leeching roommates with their own accounts, or create a new iTunes account.

How to Set Up Home Sharing on iTunes at Work:

  1. Open iTunes on your work computer connected to your work network (if its OK with your boss, of course).
  2. Select Home Sharing from the sidebar of iTunes.
  3. Enter your iTunes account information.
  4. Authorize your work computer, if necessary. Remember – you can only authorize up to five computers per account. You may need to Deauthorize All computers and then authorize this computer, or create a new iTunes account. This can be done for your home network, too:

How to Deauthorize All Computers Using Your iTunes Account:

  1. Click iTunes Store in the menu on the left side of iTunes.
  2. If you’re not signed in to the store, click the Account button, then enter your account name and password.
  3. Click the Account button again (your ID appears on the button), enter your password, and then click View Account.
  4. In the Account Information window, click Deauthorize All.

Thanks for the tips, it works great, I wish Apple will have all the music in the same account wherever we go or when we use any computer like Google. I have both PC and Apple Laptop, it is frustrating not to see the downloaded music.
