Change The Windows Explorer Target Folder In Windows 7

Posted by on Mar 10, 2010 | 2 Comments

When you open Windows Explorer from the Start menu, it always opens to the same folder. For example, in Windows 7, Windows Explorer opens to the Libraries folder.

If you prefer, you can configure it to open to a folder of your choice. For example, you can have Windows Explorer open to the Computer folder. You can do so by editing the properties of the Windows Explorer shortcut.

To accomplish this, following the steps described below.

  1. Open the Start menu and type Windows Explorer in the Search field.
  2. Right-click the first result and click Properties.
  3. From the Windows Explorer Properties dialog box, type the following command in the Target field: %SystemRoot%explorer.exe /root,::{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}.
  4. Click OK.

What a complicated way to accomplish a simple task! If Windows Explorer icon is on task bar try:
1)Right click the Windows Explorer Icon
2)Right click on “Windows Explorer” and choose properties
3)In the target area append the directory/folder you wish to start in

    For example: %windir%explorer.exe D:George
where the D:George is where you wish to be on open.

I am being thrust into managing a Windows Server 2008 R2 environment. I have managed to get things installed and the program that was the main reason for the install seems to be working good at this point. I will have to admit that I do not feel comfortable at present as I know little about how to manage this animal – desktop OS’s, I’m quite familiar but this is giving me nightmares. Can you direct me to something that will give me some good basic setups and procedures for managing this behemoth. Nothing is available yet it seems directly using the R2 version of this system, even Microsoft Press has not yet released any books on this yet.
