Create A New Multi-Level List Style In Word 2007

Posted by on Dec 8, 2009 | No Comments

A multi-level list lets you show list items at different levels as opposed to only a single level. For example, if you have a list starting at 1, 2, 3, etc., you can have sub-items appear under each number as 1.1, 1.2, 2.1, 2.2, and so on.

In a previous tip, you learned how to create a new multi-level list within a document using the existing styles in the gallery. If none of the existing styles meet your needs or preferences, you can easily create a new multi-level list style and add it to the gallery.

To create a new multi-level list style in Word 2007:

  1. On the Home tab, within the Paragraph group, click the arrow next to Multilevel List.
  2. Click the Define New Multilevel List option.
  3. Enter in the number format, font, and position choices for each level you want in the list.
  4. Click OK.
