Personalize The IE 8 Title Bar

The title bar in Internet Explorer is at the top most part of the screen. By default, the IE title bar shows the title of the current web page followed by default text included by Internet Explorer. In IE 8, you have the ability to change the default text of the title bar to whatever you like by modifying the Windows Registry as described below:

  1. In Windows Vista or Windows 7, click Start, type “regedit” in the Search field and press Enter.
  2. Within the registry, navigate to HKEY_ CURRENT_USER / Software / Microsoft / Internet Explorer / Main.
  3. Right click in any white space in the right hand pane and point to New > String Value.
  4. Save the new value as Window Title.
  5. Double-click the new registry entry, type anything you like in Value Data box and press OK.
  6. Close the Registry Editor and start IE8 and you should see the new magic in the title bar.

The article about tweaking the IE8 title bar is interesting, but I’m seeking to figure out what is causing it’s default title bar to display (at the end of the usual text describing the webpage) a dash and then my computer’s name, followed by my pc’s user name, eg; Personalize The IE 8 Title Bar ~ Windows Fanatics – Dream2My name here. What next, it’ll start displaying my passwords?
