Add Captions For Graphics In Word 2007

Sometimes when you add a graphic to a Word document, you may need to include a caption to explain the graphic. Most books that include graphics also have corresponding captions. Furthermore, the captions usually include a generic label, such as figure1, figure 2, etc.

Word makes it easy to automatically add captions to your graphics. The steps below describe how to add a generic caption to your graphics.

  1. Within Word, click the References tab and then click Insert Caption within the Captions group.
  2. In the Caption dialog box, click the AutoCaption button.
  3. Check the object you want to associate with an automated caption, such as Bitmap Image.
  4. From the Use Label drop-down list, select Figure.
  5. From the Position drop-down list, specify where you want the caption to appear in relation to the inserted graphic.
  6. Click OK.

Word will automatically include the label you selected in step 4 to your graphics.
