When a communication tool like Twitter comes along that literally seems to be taking over the world, people begin to want it to do more than it’s designed to do. For example, users are already spending hours upon hours of time tweeting, and that’s more time than a lot of people spend using their phones. Because of that, there begins to be a desire to start using Twitter more like a telephone. Twitter has made it easy for developers to build their own services that make use of Twitter, and a service called Pockets claims to provide visual voicemail for Twitter.
Pockets makes use of your phone, so it’s not exactly a telephone replacement, but it does bring voice messages to Twitter. By entering someone’s Twitter name and signing into your account, Pockets will then give you a call on your phone, you answer and record your message, and then the message is sent to the other user through an @reply. Recipients can then respond to your message in a similar way. Pretty soon we’re not even going to remember how to use phones like normal.

So, this is useful if you want a person to hear your voice and v.v., but you don’t actually want to talk to them? Here’s a simpler solution: just program your phones to have a 5 minute delay between transmissions. Same effect without using bandwidth.
