Clear Recent Search Entries In Windows 7

One of the features of Windows 7 is that it remembers your search queries and displays recent examples when you search in Windows Explorer. Some people find it handy because it saves time when reusing search queries.

However, saved search queries make others, who are more concerned about security, uneasy because others who use their computer can see their search queries. If you do not want your recent search entries visible to others, you can turn this feature off using the steps described below.

  1. Open GPEDIT.MSC.
  2. Navigate to User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Explorer.
  3. Open the Turn off display of recent search entries option.
  4. Click Enabled.
  5. Click OK.
