One of the easiest ways to keep your computer running smoothly is to regularly defragment your hard drives. As with previous versions of Windows, Windows 7 includes a defragmenter tool called the Disk Defragmenter. By default, the tool is scheduled to run every week, which means you do not have to do anything else. However, what you may want to do is change the default schedule to specify a different day and time for the Disk Defragmenter to run.
To change the default Disk Defragmenter schedule in Windows 7:
- Click Start, All Programs, Accessories, and select System Tools.
- If prompted to approve the use of the tool, click Continue.
- Click Modify schedule.
- In the Disk Defragmenter: Modify Schedule dialog box, choose how often, what day, and at what time of the day you want the tool to run.
- Click OK.
- Click OK again.
