Prevent Access To The Control Panel In Vista

Another tool that, although useful, can be very dangerous is the Control Panel. Given that the Control Panel is the main place for making changes, you may want to restrict access to computer administrators only.

  1. Open the Group Policy Editor.
  2. Navigate to User Configuration / Administrative Templates / Control Panel.
  3. In the details pane, enable the Prohibit access to the control panel policy option.
  4. Restart your computer or type gpupdate /force at the command prompt.

With this setting enabled, users will be unable to start the Control Panel or run any Control Panel items.
