Online Screen Recording Web Sites That Don’t Use Flash

Gnomie Kevoc2008 from our chat room writes:

Dear Chris,

I found a couple of online screen recording services that use Java instead of Flash, and after seeing you recently say how much Flash fails while demonstrating Screenjelly, I would recommend showing this Web site to the community instead of Screenjelly. The two Web sites are ScreenCastle and ScreenToaster. ScreenCastle is the simpler version of screen capturing, while ScreenToaster is more advanced in features and requires signing up for a free account.

ScreenCastle is simple: You press a button to record and it gives you a link to download the video after recording. ScreenToaster has more features like capturing Web cam, recording the mic, and what part of the screen to record, and availability to record from a VNC server. ScreenToaster also allows you to upload to YouTube (currently in beta so things like mic and Web cam recording are not fully available) or just download the video file. ScreenToaster also can store your screen recording so you won’t need to remember to download the video after you recorded your screen.

To me, I think these Web sites are better than Screenjelly because they use Java and not Flash that, as you said, usually fails.

Also, while typing this email, I rolled on to a live streaming twitter Web site. Don’t know if it is good but the link is twitcam.com.

@Kevoc2008 Screenjelly and ScreenToaster use the same underlying technology based on Java and Flash. (they are 2 services from the same company)
