Delete All But the Most Recent Restore Point In Windows 7

Restore points can take up several gigabytes of hard drive space. You can reclaim the space but disabling System Protection; by doing so, you will not be able to restore your computer to a given point in time.

An alternative, or happy medium, is to delete all the restore points except for the most recent one. To accomplish this in Windows 7:

  1. Click Start, type Cleanmgr.exe and press Enter.

  2. Select the appropriate drive letter from the list and click OK.
  3. Click Clean up system files. Disk Cleanup restarts in elevated mode.
  4. Select the appropriate drive letter from the list and click OK.
  5. Click the More Options tab.
  6. Under System Restore and Shadow Copies, click Clean up.
  7. Click OK.

    I´m quite satisfied with Win XP for my home uses..but, knowing the power of Mr. Bill I´m afraid that sooner or later I will need your tips.
    By the way. I´ve selected the most useful tips fro XP and office 2000 you gave in these last years, and, I offer them at your disposal (well, I could say to return them)

    I freed up 50 GBs when I deleted my restore points!! I was wondering where all that space went!

    Morning Diana,

    I am interested in your advice about ‘Delete all but the Recent Restore Points’. I have always used this idea to save space but recently I bought a new Dell computer with XP Professional installed and when I try to use this restore method it does not work. Is there some settings somewhere that need a ‘tick’ in a box to get it to operate correctly? Thank you Bob Huggins
