Disable Thumbnail Previews In Windows 7

Posted by on Jul 15, 2009 | 2 Comments

If you have a large number of folders and files on your computer, you may notice that it is slow navigating through Windows Explorer. This may be due to Windows Vista generating thumbnail previews for folders.

You can speed up browsing in Windows Explorer by disabling thumbnail previews using the steps listed below:

  1. Open a Windows Explorer window.
  2. From the Tools menu, click Folder Options
  3. Click the View tab.
  4. Select the Always show icons, never thumbnails option to turn off thumbnails.
  5. Click OK.

Reall though, if this is causiing your system to slow down, you should probably consider upgrading to a more modern machine…

Oh yeah, great! You show me how to turn ‘em off – big deal!
What I want to know is, … (ok, so it’s a bit off subject, but this was my only shot):
How do I get Vista Home (Basic or Premium) to SHOW thumbnails for PhotoShop documents? (.psd).
They show up just fine in XP Home, but nada in Vista.
    What to do???
So far, all I could do was to save a .psd as a tiny .jpg to get a thumbnail on one side or the other of the .psd. Not a really good solution.
