If you are frequently use the snap-ins within Microsoft Management Console, you may start to find it rather tedious clicking your way to the appropriate one. A more efficient way of doing of opening a snap-in that you frequently use is to create your own custom management console and save it as an msc file. You will then be able to open the management console with your favorite snap-in by simply double clicking the file you saved.
To create a custom management console in Windows Vista:
- Click Start and type mmc in the Search box.
- Press Enter.
- From the File menu, click Add/Remove Snap-in.
- From the list of available snap-ins, select the one you want to add and click the Add button. If prompted to select a computer, accept the default and click OK. Repeat this step for each additional snap-in you want in your console.
- Click OK.
- From the File menu, click Save As.
- Type in a name for the console and specify where you want to save it.
- Click Save.
Now when you want to access the snap-ins, simply double click the msc file that you just created.
