When you add a table in Microsoft Word, each table cell is separated by a default amount of space. If you want more space between each table cell, you can customize your tables and define the cell spacing for your table in the Microsoft Word table tools.
To add spacing between table cells in Word 2007:
- Place the cursor inside the table you want to modify.
- Click the Layout tab under the Table Tools tab.
- Click the Cell Margins icon in the Alignment group.
- Select the Allow Spacing between Cells check box and type a value. Alternatively, click the up/down arrows to increase or decrease the currently displayed value.
- Click OK.

Thanks for the detailed instructions! I was able to edit the cell spacing in a Korean version of Office 2007 thanks to your help! Thank you for specifying whether I was looking for a tab or an icon or something else — key words like that make it possible to deal with foreign installations.
