Prevent Outlook From Saving Draft Messages

When you compose an email message in Outlook, the message is automatically saved after 3 minutes. This means that if you decide not to send the message, Outlook will inform you that it has automatically saved a copy of it in the Drafts folder. You will be prompted as the whether or not you want to keep a copy of the message.

If you rarely save messages to the Drafts folder, you can turn this feature off completely using the steps that are described below.

  1. Open Outlook
  2. From the Tools menu, click Options
  3. On the Preferences tab, under E-mail, click E-mail Options
  4. Clear the check box beside the Automatically save unsent messages option.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Click OK to close the Options windows and save your changes.
