Social networks are everywhere these days. MySpace and Facebook may be two of the most recognizable names in social networking, but niche social networks exist for almost any subject that you can think of and are tied into many of the services that we use online. In fact, you’re probably a part of some social networks that you didn’t even realize were social networks. After using these social utilities for so long, the temptation to create your own specialized social network may present itself. If it does, you should know that there are plenty of ways in which this can be done, and SocialGO is a self-described social network maker.
Eventually SocialGO will have both a free and premium service, but during the beta period, all of the premium features are offered for free until January 2009. A lot of what you see will be familiar to social networking maniacs, but one of the coolest features that I noticed was support for instant messaging between users with the ability to include audio and video. Building and managing a social network is almost too easy, so give it a try and see what you come up with.

Socialgo really is a very exciting development. I think one of the ways it really differentiates itself from other network creators is their promise written into the terms and condition where the owner truly owns ALL of the data and can transfer it out at will.
Seems that quite a few people are finding it now, even whilst it’s still in beta - take a look at this data for the web traffic over the past few months:

It is a different social networking solution than what has come before. It is super easy for a noob to just sign up and go or if you want something different you can customize it. Soon they will open up the third party widget store so creators can add features.

SocialGo is a step up, and a step in the right direction for noobs who want to create their own hosted social network.
However, if you want to own your user data - and not be at the mercy of the success of these companies (i.e. if they go bankrupt) consider going fully independent with PHPfox.
