Record Sound With Vista’s Sound Recorder

Vista includes an application called Sound Recorder that you can use to record sound as a digital media file using a variety of device, such as a microphone or a headset. You can save the audio that you record as either a Windows Media Audio (.wma) file or a WAVE form audio format (.wav).

Assuming you have a microphone attached to your computer, you can create a simple recording using the steps outlined below:

  1. Click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, and then click Sound Recorder.

  2. Click Start Recording.
  3. To stop recording audio, click Stop Recording.
  4. To continue recording audio, click Cancel. In the Save As dialog box, click Resume Recording, continue to record sound, and then click Stop Recording.
  5. Click the File name box, type a file name for the recorded sound, and then click Save to save the recorded sound as an audio file.

  1. I think the sound recorder that is included with Vista has very limited functionality. The one in Windows XP was a much better one, it had options to trim your recording as well as increase / decrease its volume. I normally used to make ringtones for my cell phone with a few simple clicks..! By the way, its not only with Sound recorder the new version of Windows Movie Maker (which comes with the Live Package) has severe limitations and it is not even easy to use.

hi, any time vista can record from wave, that would help ease a lot of problem we face, considering doing a 2 way speak with some one via the computer (internet )and you want to record the conversion all you can get is you in the recording.
