Selfcast

I love watching live broadcasts on television. When a show is live, it feels like anything can happen, and it’s amazing that we can watch live video in such high quality from locations all over the world. Live television isn’t a new concept by any means, and neither are live Internet video broadcasts. However, the unique shift that’s taking place online involves the appearance of services that enable anyone with a webcam and an Internet connection to easily broadcast their own live Internet show. Selfcast is another one of the competitors in this space.Â
There are a number of services that enable you to do this, and some of them are wildly popular, but since I hadn’t heard of Selfcast before, I thought I’d draw some attention to it. Just like the competition, Selfcast provides a simple way to broadcast audio and video through the Internet, and it contains many of the features that we’ve come to expect like chat rooms, embedding, and so on. The thing about using a service like this that isn’t exceedingly popular is that you don’t know for sure if they’ll be able to remain stable as they grow, but at the same time, if you’re an early adopter, your broadcast has a better chance of becoming popular within the community.

Bad News - It looks like Selfcast is down for good.
After 24 hours of no connection to them, I received an email from support stating that “a decision has been made to take down Selfcast for good”. Recession was cited as the reason.
