Hey Chris,
Through a quick Google search for widget engines I found this Web site called Netvibes. The site acts as an information hub designed to be your homepage, much like iGoogle. Unlike iGoogle however, Netvibes has many unique features, and in my opinion, this makes it much better than iGoogle. I say this because the interface is very intuitive; it seems to be all in one page — by that I mean that to customize your page you don’t have to load anything new. It all happens via a drop down bar at the top of the page.
Also, the interface is very clean and simple; the page is nice to look at and the information you choose to receive can be laid out in a very orderly fashion. Furthermore, the site’s appearance can be easily changed via the themes. Finally the widgets used to receive the information are very easy to use and are sparse in their variation. Great ones include: the weather, the news, information on your interests, and also things like to-do lists and calenders.
It’s a great homepage to have and I highly recommend it!

Netvibes is a good alternative to iGoogle, but if you’re looking for options you might also want to take a look at Pageflakes as well. One point of correction on Netvibes - you can have as many pages as you want, via a series of tabs (as you can with Pageflakes) and it’s also possible to share these with a small group or publish them for the world to see.
