Make A Template Read-Only In Word 2007

In a previous tip, I showed you how to create a new template. If you plan to share your template with others or store it in a shared location, you may be concerned with other people making changes to the template. If you don’t want others changing the template, you can make the file read-only, as described below.

To make a template read-only:

  1. Browse to the location where the template is stored.
  2. Right-click the template and click Properties.
  3. On the General tab, select the Read-only check box.
  4. Click OK.

You should now see the words ‘read-only’ appended to the name of the template when you open it. If you want to make changes to the template at a later time, you will need to repeat the steps above to remove the read-only attribute.
