If you share a spreadsheet with other users, you could be concerned about them making unwanted modifications to it. Excel has a few different features you can use to prevent this from happening.
One way you can prevent other from modifying a file is by having it open as read-only. When a reviewer opens the Excel file, a prompt will appear recommending that the file be opened as read-only. If it is opened in read-only mode, the changes can only be saved by giving the file a new name.
To recommend read-only mode in Excel 2007:
- Within Excel, click the Microsoft Office Button and the click Save As.
- Click Tools and then click General Options.
- Click the Read-only recommended option.
- Click OK.
- Click Save.
- If prompted, click Yes to update the existing file with the new read-only setting.
