RedZee

We’ve all been searching the Internet in a similar way for the past few years, and modern search engines can give us powerful results when we just type in a few words. Even though there may be billions of Web pages out there, these engines can usually help us find exactly what we’re looking for in a fraction of a second. There’s no doubt that that’s very impressive, but the time has come for search engines that redefine what search engines are, which is no small task. RedZee may not offer the most compelling results around, but they are building a new way to search the Internet.

The first thing that you’ll notice as soon as you visit RedZee is the comical zebra with red stripes (get it?) that’s jumping around and looking at you with a wide grin. This might lead you to think that the search engine is intended to be safe for families, which it is. When you search for something, you’ll see that a collection of Web page screenshots are available for you to scroll through to the left and to the right. These screenshots may not be current or accurate in relation to the exact page on the site that you’re looking for, but they do help you to understand where the results link to in a general way. Results can also be opened in multiple tabs through RedZee, however, I found the results to be extremely disappointing, and this service seems to function as nothing more than a concept that needs some additional work.

Cute SE.
Thumbails is a neat idea.
Being a developer myself I cannot imagine why it does not return current thumbnail. It cannot be that hard.

My second search resulted in “An unexpected exception has occured”.
Regardless of how cute the Zee is, this is not a good sign :-)
I have not even bothered checking the search results.
It looks more like a proof of concept than a working SE.

There is only one search engine that never dissapoints.
And we all know its name.
(Hint: Not LiveSearch :-) )

Still waiting to see a search engine that will let me whistle a tune and find it, though.
Now, that would be something !
