With manual hyphenation, Word searches your document for text to hyphenate, asks you to confirm each proposed optional hyphen, and inserts the optional hyphens. If you later edit the document and change line breaks, Word displays and prints only the optional hyphens that still fall at the end of lines.
You can easily remove manual hyphenations within your document using the Find and Replace features in Word. To remove manual hyphenation in Word 2007:
- On the Home tab, in the Editing group, click Replace.
- Click Special, and then click one of the following:
- Click Optional Hyphen to remove manual hyphens.
- Click Nonbreaking Hyphen to remove nonbreaking hyphens.
- Leave the Replace with box empty.
- Click one of the following options: Find Next, Replace, or Replace All.
