Using Word’s Document Map

The Document Map displays a list of headings in your document in a separate pane. To use this feature, you have to format headings with one of the built-in heading styles, e.g. Heading 1.

To view the Document Map in Word 2003: from the View menu, click the Document Map option.

You can also customize the level of headings displayed in the Document Map. Right click a heading in the Document map.

To display all headings at a specific level or higher: right-click a heading in the Document Map and then click a number on the shortcut menu. For example, to display heading levels one through four, click Show Heading 4. If you want all heading levels displayed (levels one through nine), click All.

When you no longer require the Document Map, click the Document Map option from the View menu to turn this feature off.
