EFS Policy Settings In Vista

In a previous tip, I outlined how to enable the Encrypting File System (EFS) for a folder in Vista. The local computer policy has additional settings used to further configuring EFS.

Within the local computer policy, navigate to the following container: Computer Configuration \ Windows Settings \ Security Settings \ Public Key Policies \ Encrypting File System.

Right click the Encrypting File System folder and click Properties. You can choose the Allow or Disallow EFS. If Not defined is selected, EFS is still allowed. If you select Allow, you can configure the additional options.

Additional EFS settings within the local computer policy include:

  • EFS recovery policy processing: Computer Configuration \ Administrative Templates \ System \ Group Policy - This setting determines when encryption policies are updated.
  • Do not automatically encrypt files moved to encrypted folders: Computer Configuration \ Administrative Templates \ System - This setting determines whether Windows Explorer encrypts files that are moved into an encrypted folder.
  • Encrypt the offline files cache: Computer Configuration \ Administrative Templates \ Network \ Offline Files - This setting determines whether files in the offline files cache are encrypted.
  • Allow indexing of encrypted files: Computer Configuration \ Administrative Templates \ Windows Components \ Search - This setting determines whether encrypted items can be indexed by Windows Search.

DIANA HUGGINS:

1. i direct an assembler to list 80 lines per page and
120 characters per line. 80 characters per line can make
for a foul appearance. i want use ms word to print the list
(.lst) file. this is raw-ascii text. i want to keep the
assembler headings with page numbers but i need not keep page
integrity. if the page headings created by the assembler in
the list file (.lst) fall in the middle of the ms word page
because i am physically printing, for instance, 88 lines per
page because i have changed the font size, that is acceptable.
i do not want a hard form-feed in the list file to dictate to
ms word a new page; this is not a good time to waste paper.
i want to see 2 sets of page numbers, one from the original
list and another created by ms word. precede each assembler
heading by a blank line. otherwise leave the assembler
headings uneditted but let them fall where they may.
how do i write a macro to do this for me so that i do not have
to do it one keystroke at a time each time i open a new assembler
list file?

2. how do i build a macro to set all tabs to 4? if it must be
1 tab at a time i want the macro to do those keystrokes for me.

3. how do i build a macro to create a header that is always
followed by a blank line without having to insert or delete
that blank line every time i edit the text? i want to
right-justify all the fields in the header, separating each
field by one space. i also want to format the header font to
something large and bold.

4. when i use word to print a text file or document not created by
ms word how do i insert the input file date, not current date,
in the header?

5. how do i combine items 2, 3, and 4 into magicmacro?
if these items demand visual basic for applications then with
minimal help i should be able to follow where you lead.

does no one else in the world do what i do?

keep up the good work.
