Protect Content In A Template In Word 2007

Once you create a new template in Word 2007, you may want to secure the template so other individuals are unable to delete or edit template content. This can be done in Word 2007 using the Restrict Formatting and Editing options, as described below.

  1. Open the Word template that you want to protect from changes.
  2. Verify that you are not in design mode by clicking Design Mode in the Controls group.
  3. On the Developer tab, in the Protect group, click Protect Document, and then click Restrict Formatting and Editing.
  4. In the Protect Document task pane, under Editing restrictions, select the Allow only this type of editing in the document option.
  5. From the list of editing restrictions, select the restrictions that you want.
  6. To configure additional restriction options, click Restrict Permissions.
  7. Under Start enforcement, click Yes, Start Enforcing Protection.
  8. To assign a password to the document so that only reviewers who know the password can remove the protection, type a password in the Enter new password (optional) box, and then confirm the password.
