I’m definitely not the first person that you would ask about what’s going on in the community. I may live in the area, but that doesn’t mean that I know about every event that’s taking place nearby. Since I don’t regularly read the local newspaper and don’t make any additional effort to find out about what’s going on, I stay pretty clueless. I go to concerts about three times a year, but I only know about them because I’m a fan of the bands that are coming to town. For people like me that spend a lot of time on the Internet, there needs to be some sort of online resource that makes it easy for us to discover events taking place in our area, and that’s what Upcoming is.

Upcoming has been a part of Yahoo! since 2005, and even though that may be so, it still feels kind of independent except for the fact that you need a Yahoo! ID to be a part of the site. Browse the events by category to see what’s happening soon, and if there are any events that you’d like to submit, then you’re encouraged to add them. Besides simply being an events database, Upcoming will also help you to meet other local people who may be attending events where you’ll be.
