In a previous tip, I showed Lockergnome readers how to add a watermark to a page background. However, along with watermarks, you can also add different colors and borders to create unique page backgrounds in Word 2007.

To add a background color, click Page Layout and select Page Color. You can select a theme color, standard color or choose a custom color. Once you select a color, you can also select a shading effect (for example, horizontal or vertical) and set the level of transparency.

If you want to add a page border to your background, click Page Layout and then Page Borders. You can select from one of the preconfigured borders or create your own custom page border.
