The icons on your desktop are spaced according to values configured through the Display Properties. If you enjoy customizing different aspects of your desktop, you can customize the icon spacing. The steps below outline how to change the icon spacing in Windows XP, however they will also work in previous versions of Windows.
- Right click an area of free space on the desktop and click Properties.
- From the Display Properties tab, click the Desktop tab (Click the Appearance tab in previous versions of Windows and proceed to step 4).
- Click the Advanced button.
- Use the down arrow under Item: to modify the values for Icon Spacing (Horizontal) and Icon Spacing (Vertical).
- Click OK.
If the changes do not take effect, right click a blank area on your desktop, point to Arrange icons by, and remove the check mark beside Auto Arrange.

I use Outlook 2002 as my email client and it does not allow attachments with .exe file extensions to be opened. How can I correct this?
