When you have a large document and you need to refer someone to a specific section, it is sometimes easier to use line numbers. You have probably already seen documents that use line numbers within a specific section. This way you can refer an individual to a specific line, such as line 20.
Word allows you to quickly and easily add line numbers to a section within your document. Once you have your document complete (of course, it must include more than one line), simply complete the steps listed below.
- Click within a section or select multiple sections.
- On the Page Layout tab, in the Page Setup group, click Line Numbers.
- Click Line Numbering Options and the click the Layout tab.
- In the Apply to list, click the Selected sections option.
- Click Line Numbers.
- Click the Add line numbering option.
Line numbers will automatically be added to the left side of your document.
