Modifying A Cross-Reference In Word 2007

In a previous tip, I outlined how you can create a cross-reference in Microsoft Word. A cross-reference is simply text that refers to another item in the document such as a figure, heading, and so on.

Once you have created a cross-reference, you can change it at anytime. If you want to change the cross reference text, you can directly edit the text in the document, as you would change any other text.

You can also change the item that a cross-reference refers to. You can accomplish this by first selecting the cross-reference that you want to change. On the References tab, within the Insert group, click Cross-References. Select the type of cross-reference that you want to change it to. Click Close.

I have cross reference to two figure captions: (Figure 1 and Figure 2) but my publisher style requires me to have that as (Figures 1 and 2). When I edit the text and then update fields for the all document it goes back to (Figure 1 and Figure 2). Do you have any suggestion on how to edit the signle field code to obtain (Figures 1 and 2) in a more permanent way?
Thanks,

Sasha
