Automatically Insert The Current Date Into Your Word 2003 Document

Inserting the current date in Word is a snap and it requires a minimal amount of typing. When I write “insert the current date,” I’m referring to adding the current date to a sentence in your document.

In a previous tip, I outlined how to accomplish this in Word 2007. If you are using Word 2003, the steps are slightly different, as described below.

To automatically insert the current date:

  1. From the Insert menu, point to AutoText and then click AutoText.
  2. Verify that Show AutoComplete suggestions is selected.
  3. Click OK.
  4. Type the first four characters of the current month. For example, type ‘nove’ for November.
  5. Word will display the current month. Press Enter.
  6. Continue typing more of the current date. Word will display the entire current date.
  7. Press Enter to insert the entire date.

One Comment

In the past the instructions above for inserting the current date into a Word document using autotext has worked. However now, it only inserts the month, not the date and year.

Any ideas? Thanks.
