Inserting the current date in Word is a snap and it requires a minimal amount of typing. When I write “insert the current date,” I’m referring to adding the current date to a sentence in your document.
In a previous tip, I outlined how to accomplish this in Word 2007. If you are using Word 2003, the steps are slightly different, as described below.
To automatically insert the current date:
- From the Insert menu, point to AutoText and then click AutoText.
- Verify that Show AutoComplete suggestions is selected.
- Click OK.
- Type the first four characters of the current month. For example, type ‘nove’ for November.
- Word will display the current month. Press Enter.
- Continue typing more of the current date. Word will display the entire current date.
- Press Enter to insert the entire date.

In the past the instructions above for inserting the current date into a Word document using autotext has worked. However now, it only inserts the month, not the date and year.
Any ideas? Thanks.
