Services in Vista can be managed using the Services snap-in located under the Administrative Tools applet in the Control Panel (in Classic Mode). The snap-in allows you to stop, start, pause, resume, disable and view the status of services. You can also define recovery options in the event that a service fails to start.
If you need to disable a specific service, you can use the Services applet. The following steps demonstrate how you can disable the Indexing service.
- Open the Control Panel and double click Administrative Tools.
- Double click Services.
- Scroll through the list of services till you locate the appropriate one. (Notice as well the services installed be default and which of them are now disabled.)
- Right click the specific service and click Properties.
- From the General tab, use the arrow by the Startup Type drop down box and select disabled. Click OK.
