Administrative Command Prompt Shortcut In Vista

You are always encouraged to log on to your computer using a limited user account for security purposes. This does not mean that you have to log off the computer to perform tasks that require administrative rights. You can use the Run As option to launch programs under an administrator account.

For example, if you want to launch an administrative Command Prompt, you can right click the Command Prompt shortcut and select the Run As Administrator option. You will then be prompted for your administrator password.

You can make this process a little more efficient as well by creating a shortcut to the administrative Command Prompt. Right-click on the Command Prompt Shortcut and select Properties. Click the Advanced button and select the Run As Administrator check box. Then, Click OK twice, once to close each dialog box. Now when you want to launch an administrative command prompt, simply double click the shortcut.
