The Control Panel includes a utility called Power Options. One of the things you can do in here is configure when your computer goes into suspend modes such as Standby or Hibernate. For example, you can configure the Power Options so your computer goes into Standby mode when you press the power button. What you may not know is that you can also create a shortcut on your desktop that you can use to put your computer into hibernate mode. Here is what you have to do:
- Right click the Windows Vista desktop, point to New, and click Shortcut.
- Type in the following: rundll32.exe PowrProf.dll,SetSuspendState.
- Type in a descriptive name for the shortcut.
- Click Finish.
Once the shortcut appears on your desktop, you can use it to put your computer into Hibernate mode.
