Disable Startup Programs Using MSCONFIG In Windows Vista

Installing many different programs can eventually slow down your computer. Over time you may notice that your computer is very slow at start up. This may be due to the fact that many or some of your programs are configured to start automatically when your computer starts up. And this will definitely slow the start up process as well as consume memory.

There are two different ways of disabling programs. You can do so through the Windows registry or by using the msconfig command. To use the second method, click Start, type msconfig and press Enter. The System Configuration Utility dialog box will appear as shown in the figure.

Select the Startup tab to see a list of all the programs that are configured to start when your computer starts. Simply remove the check beside any programs you do not want to start up and click OK. You will have to restart your computer to have the changes take effect.
