Gnomie John MacDonald writes:

Hello from a fellow Des Moines boy that left the cold, heat, and humidity to live in a climate that is close to paradise; the only difference being that mine is San Diego and yours is Seattle.

I realize it is a couple of weeks after-the-fact, but better late than never. I, like you, am a Musicmatch Jukebox Plus user and recently started to experience problems with it freezing up and/or shutting down a lot. Damn, I hate to see Jukebox bite the Yahoo! dust. Maybe it will leave the player alone and just focus on its online music sales… one can only hope! Jukebox has been everything I could ask for in a player/burner for many years now, however, I emailed its tech department asking about possible driver problems. It sent me a detailed list of the steps necessary to remove all previous Musicmatch software and the necessary data for a complete reinstall… it now works great and have not had a single problem with my beloved Jukebox since. It is also about ten times faster than before. I realize that with your years of computer experience, knowledge, and aptitude, you have probably already tried this route. But, just in case, here are the instructions the company sent me:

The steps to take you through a very thorough uninstall and reinstall of Musicmatch Jukebox are provided below. This is necessary because other software related to Musicmatch that is not removed during a standard uninstall must also be removed. To proceed, please follow these steps:

Step 1: Make sure all Musicmatch applications are shut down.

  1. Close Musicmatch Jukebox.
  2. Open the Task Manager (use the CTRL+SHIFT+ESCAPE key-combination on your keyboard.) 3. Click the “Processes” tab.
  3. Click the “Image Name” column title to sort the list alphabetically.

Please check if any of the following applications appear in the list:

  • setup.exe
  • mmjb.exe
  • mim.exe
  • mimboot.exe
  • mmdiag.exe
  • mm_Tray.exe
  • mm_TDMEngine.exe
  • mmjbburn.exe
  • mmjblaunch.exe
  • mm_server.exe

If so, simply highlight the application(s) then click the “End Process” button.

Note: Ending a process may take several seconds. You may also see a message indicating that the application is not responding during this time. We assure you that this is normal. Just click the “End Now” button if you see this message.

Exit the Task Manager.

Step 2: Uninstall Musicmatch Jukebox using Add/Remove Programs

  1. Click the Start button on the Windows taskbar.
  2. Click “Control Panel.”
  3. Click “Add or Remove Programs.”
  4. Select “Musicmatch Jukebox.”
  5. Click the “Change/Remove” button.
  6. Select “Yes” if you are asked to verify that you want to remove any shared files.

After removing the file, be sure to reboot your PC.

Step 3: Remove any leftover files that were not automatically removed during uninstall.

  1. Delete any remaining Musicmatch Jukebox shortcuts from your desktop
  2. Close any applications that are currently running on your system. This includes any system tray applications located next to the clock on the Taskbar.
  3. Right-click on the Start button.
  4. Click “Explore”
  5. Navigate to the folder where Musicmatch was installed, for example: C: \ Program Files \
  6. Locate the “Musicmatch” directory, highlight it and press the delete key on your keyboard.
  7. Confirm that you want to delete it by clicking on “Yes.”
  8. Navigate to C: \ Program Files \ Common Files \
  9. Delete the InstallShield folder as well.
  10. Navigate to the Windows Temp directory, for example: C: \ Documents and Settings \ User \ Local Settings \ Temp
  11. Delete the files and folders in the Temp directory. Please note that any files that are in use will not be deleted.
  12. Navigate to the application data folder on your hard drive, for example: C: \ Documents and Settings \ user \ Local Settings \ Application Data \
  13. Locate the “Musicmatch” directory, highlight it and press the delete key on your keyboard.
  14. Confirm that you want to delete it by clicking on “Yes.”

Please note that “user” indicates your Windows account name. The Local Settings folder is a system folder that may be hidden. Ensure that you do not have folders hidden. If you are not sure how to unhide system folders, follow the instructions here.

After completing the steps above, restart your computer to save the changes you’ve made.

Step 4: Reinstall Musicmatch Jukebox.

Please download the setup file here.

To ensure a successful installation, please save the file to your desktop before running the installation. If the installation is successful, be certain to restart your computer once more to update the system registry.

Step 5: Enter your registration key.

  1. Open Musicmatch Jukebox.
  2. Click the “Help” menu.
  3. Select “Registration” and then select “Enter Key.”
  4. Enter your Musicmatch Jukebox Plus key in the space provided.

I too have had recent difficulty with Music Match (Plus) and when I went to upgrade found it had been taken over by the dreaded Yahoo! While satisfactory, I really liked MusicMatch better. My problem is that I had a Plus number, having bought the plus version, and it has disappeared from my files. E-mail to Yahoo! has resulted in zero replies. Being an older person, I really don’t want to buy it again, and probably would wind up with a Yahoo! Plus version or whatever they call it, instead of MusicMatch Plus.

I had a problem with Musicmatch about 3 years ago, and spent countless hours with them to correct it.I even formated my drive and reloaded Windows. I eventually gave up and deleted it from my system. Although I always thought that Musicmatch was the best player on the market, I assumed that I would never be able to use it. Fortunately I still had a record of my registration key. I went through John’s procedure, and it is now working perfectly.
Thank you John & Chris

I fixed the problem following John’s procedure, and it is now working perfectly, but…there´s allways a but.. I don´t really know if my Internet Explorer 7 had something to do with it, I just rolled back to IE6 and follow the instructions, it worked and still de doubt. can you tell me about it? Thank a lot you save my music database.

Gazoo….

Yahoo Musicmatch is HORRIBLE !!!!!!!!!!!!

I have bought about 2,000 songs over the last few years and now they will not play. Yahoo offers no help. Anyone know of any class action lawsuits aginst them?

GLAD TO HAVE FOUND YOUR WEBSITE - I AM SO SICK & F-ING TIRED ON MM OPENING EVERYTIME I SNEEZE AND I RESENT THE FACT THAT I CANNOT GET RID OF THE PIECE OF $HIT! NOW I GET AN ERROR DIALOG TO THE EFFECT OF SP-2 IE 7 BLAH BLAH. G-D D’IT!

I can’t get the mmjbburn.exe process to end. I have tried to end the process in the task manager but it’s not working. What should I do?

I use Music Match Plus to record my LP records and then put them on CDs. Lately, when I start recording, I can no longer hear what is being recorded (makes stopping at the end of each song difficult.) All my online “help” screens go no where. Anyone know where I might turn for help?

This really was a move to remove the upgrades to all furure versions deal musicmatch had made with everyone, This is a bait and switch tactic. To this day MusicMatch has been selling MusicMatch 2008, and you who would of got this upgraded version have been conned. MusicMatch new at the time it was selling hot that it was going to do this, This was not a over night move. This was to get even more money from everyone because they can get more money coming in monthly, and keep it coming in. So if you want your money back - find out where MusicMatch is, Go in person and please don’t harm anyone, And take from them like they took from you.
Maybe a nice computer,
Maybe a nice car,
Maybe I can get my money out of shutting the whole system down for a day or two.

Maybe they should think about how many people they ripped off for once, and all this could happen to them and thier families.

Me - I’m going to wait on GOD, HE will show everyone when this is all over.

Thanks MusicMatch for ripping me off, and the countless 100’s of thousands of others. I do ask GOD to bless you, I ask GOD to talk to you about your greed problems and con job, the many low income people you had taken to the cleaners.

No one gets away with it.

Thank You so much. I have tried deleting and uninstalling, reinstalling, etc… I still don’t know why my MusicMatch stopped working, but your fix got it working again. I even tried downloading the Yahoo version (regretted it after about a second). Now I have my MusicMatch back and I couldn’t be happier. Just so you can update this info if you want, the link you posted for the setup did not work (on my computer anyway). I had some old setup files saved and also downloaded alot of old versions from oldversions.com. I used the setup for 10.00.4033 and so far it seems to be working. I am so grateful to you. IMHO this is is one of the best benefits of the internet, someone needs to learn something and another person is willing to teach them. I thank you again.
Eric

i had the same problem i also have the key for all versions of musicmatch , the only thing that i love from musicmatch the most is the ability to to add digital ennacements to the files , like if you have a low quality cd , you can improve the sound , by adjusting volume levelling, equalizer and even dfx , to it , so after countless hours of dealing with it , i finally got it , like every time that i tried to burn a cd , the burner freeze on me , or receive and runtime error message, also the explorer freeze on me , and i had to reestart the computer over and over again, the only version the really work,s without problems is the version 7.5 and 8.0 , but they dont support wma files , and i still have some old files in that format, so i needed a newer version ,so this is what i did , i unistalled the jukebox , using all the instructions from my friend chris above , and then started with the oldest version , and went all the way up , with the try and error , until i got to the 10.004033 version this is the only that i could make work with my sistem , aniway am running windows vista 32 , with a 9500quad processor computer 62 amd , i aplly the windows 2000 to all the program icons , it means that you have to navigate to the folder were the program is installed , and then highlight one by one all the program icons , and change the compability settings to windows 2000 , close all the programs and reestart the sistem , if you want to burn a cd do not use the desktop icon , instead use the tray icon at the bottom of your screen , somehow when you use the desktop icon to open the jukebox , it frezzes the burner , also try a lower speed like 16 X , and enjoy , so am a happy man now , am enjoying my player burning cds for my friends and family , hope this is usefull info for you folks, Questions?jgaleas1@gmail.com
