When you type in a asterisk or a number one, Word automatically assumes that you want to create a bulleted or numbered list. If you do not like this feature, you can turn off automatic lists so that you have to create them manually.
To turn off automatic lists in Word 2007:
- Click the Microsoft Office Button and click Word Options.
- Click Proofing.
- Click AutoCorrect Options, and then click the AutoFormat As You Type tab.
- Under Apply as you type, select or clear the Automatic bulleted lists check box or the Automatic numbered lists check box.

somehow Word did this even when I didn’t touch anything.
I was really frustrated because it didn’t automatically numbered lists in the middle of my work. Thanks for the help. (although I wanted it turned on)
