If you are an Excel beginner, you may be struggling with constructing formulas that do not result in an error. With a little practice though, you can easily get the hang of it and start creating your own formulas.

So let’s take a look at how you can create a simple formula. With your Excel worksheet open, begin by clicking within the cell where you want the formula results displayed then complete the steps listed below.

  1. Type an equal sign (=) in the cell.
  2. Click the first cell that you want to use in the formula.
  3. Type in one of the four mathematical operators (+, -, *, or /).
  4. Click the second cell you want to use in the formula.
  5. Press Enter.

The results of the formula will be displayed in the first cell you selected.
