Run BASIC

To be completely honest, one of the main things that helped me to become interested in technology was a programming language developed by Carl Gundel called Liberty BASIC, and I still use it down to this very day. LB is just one of many programming languages that enable you to develop Windows software, but when it comes to the Internet, it’s not always very easy for someone who’s trained in the simplicity of BASIC to use their knowledge to create Web applications. In realizing this, Shoptalk Systems (the company behind Liberty BASIC) has developed a version of BASIC for the Web, and it’s simply called Run BASIC.
With Run BASIC, you don’t need to download and install any separate software because all that you need is already in your browser. The language is based on Liberty BASIC, so if you’re familiar with LB or just regular BASIC, then you’ll be writing applications in no time. Examples and lessons exist for those who’d like to get their feet wet before diving in, and they’ll equip you in the right way. Once you’ve created something that you’re proud of, go ahead and use the site to share it with a friend via e-mail. Give it a try, and maybe Run BASIC will do for you what Liberty BASIC did for me.

Hey Brandon,
Thanks for blogging about Run BASIC. I’d like to encourage visitors to the Run BASIC site to check out the screencast links on the home page.

Didn’t MS put out a free Visual Basic-like kit recently?

leftyStrat,
Yes, they did. A great big, complicated programming environment.
