When you have a large document and you need to refer someone to a specific section, it is sometimes easier to use line numbers. You have probably already seen documents that use line numbers. This way you can refer an individual to a specific line, such as line 20.
Word allows you to quickly and easily add line numbers to your document. Once you have your document complete (of course, it must include more than one line), simply complete the steps listed below.
- From the File menu, select Page Setup.
- Select the Layout tab.
- Select the Line Numbers button.
- Click Add line numbering and click OK.
- Click OK.
Word adds the line numbers to the left side of your document. Keep in mind that you need to switch to Print Layout View to see the line numbers.
