Logitech: Good AND Evil

Remember how I was looking for a keyboard the other day? Well, I did purchase a Logitech diNovo Edge. The hardware was amazing, but the software was beyond lousy. After a couple of BSODs and workflow hiccups, I decided to uninstall the SoB and take ‘er back to the store. My friend, Jeff Partridge, had this to say about the peripheral:
The Logitech diNovo may not be the most economical keyboard in existence, but for anyone who aspires to type (fast!), it’s the top of the mountain. The keys are nearly flat, like a laptop’s, and the keyforce is minimal. I can type much faster on it than my software would be able to handle. If you want to touch it out, you’re going to have to do something I’m betting you hate to do: head to the big box stores. Best Buy (here, anyway) has an entire aisle of keyboards on display. And the diNovo is one of them. Hop on your Segway and head over there, pronto!
I’m still waiting for the fabled Microsoft Entertainment Desktop 8000 to be released - but they keep pushing the release date back!

Chris,
It isn’t that the Logitech products are bad, but I found questionable things in the software. Things that looked suspiciously like tracking cookies. Tracking cookies that would show up in my Spybot. They were not threatening cookies, but why did Logitech want to watch what I was doing on the web?

Did you mean to say that you tried to uninstall the software/drivers? The last time I attempted to uninstall a Logitech product I later found their debris scattered all over the registry. Their left-over trash kept interfering with another device I was trying to install. Finally had to hack the registry and manually delete every reference to Logitech. I guess they make good products, but I sure don’t think much of their software.

Hi Chris
Been a long ride from Iowa, thanks for providing a seat to ride along.
Hey, thought I might add my thoughts to yours about a keyboard.
I use one (and I copy from the back label) from BTC, model 8110M.
Its not the fanciest but it is comfortable to use. it is a split in the middle but not at an angle, the space key is split into a delete key on the left and space on the right. Feels quite normal to use your left thumb to delete.
Thought I might mention it.
