- Add a Comment
By default, Outlook displays the total number of unread items in a folder such as the Inbox. You can configure Outlook to display the total number of items in a folder instead.
To accomplish this in Outlook 2003:
- Right click the appropriate folder in Outlook.
- Click the Properties option.
- Verify that the General tab is selected.
- Click the Show total number of items option.
- Click OK.
To return to the default and display the number of unread items, on the General tab, click Show number of unread items.

This is a fine description, however, is there a way to make show total the default?
