One of the most exciting and disturbing things about the Internet is that it makes it very easy to keep track of what people are doing. So many of us are openly volunteering information on our blogs, social networking profiles, etc., and because of this, as long as a person is familiar with Google and your name, they can pretty much follow what you’re doing as you make your way across the Internet. It may sound like an undercover operation, but there’s really nothing covert or mysterious about it because anyone can do it, and plenty of people are. One site that has simplified the digital stalking process is Stalkerati.
In addition to Google, there are a bunch of other services that you can use to search for people and their work, and Stalkerati can search through a modest number of them at once, including Facebook, Friendster, and Technorati. That may not be a complete collection, but it should be enough to help you get started with finding some information about someone’s online life. If you’re willing to go one step further and register to become a member of the site, you’ll even be able to add your friends to your buddy list so that you can keep track of their profiles and check their IM status. Yeah, you’re definitely not alone.
